The Art and Soul Behind Roohanirang’s Designs: From Architect to Artisan Collaborator- Miss Rashi Agarwal

by Roohani Rang 12 Jul 2025
I often get asked: " where do you find inspiration for your artworks?
It’s a question that takes me back years to architecture college — to architecture studios lit by tracing paper and the quiet hum of my drafting pencil; to walks through narrow streets of Surat bursting with color, shops, and stories older than memory.

From architecture to art that lives in your hands

Before I founded Roohanirang Design Studio, I was simply Rashi Agarwal, an architect who loved sketching , obsessed with details, storytelling through my designs, and always evoke emotions through my design and art.

Architecture taught me to see the world not just as structures, but look at the : arches echoing forgotten dynasties, lattice screens filtering morning light into art.
Yet, something in me yearned to bring those stories closer to daily life — into objects people could hold, use, and cherish.

That dream led me to create my own signature design language:

  • Vibrant yet rooted

  • Playful yet meaningful

  • A tribute to Indian aesthetics, but reimagined for today

🌿 Design meets craft: the synergy behind every Roohanirang product

My vision alone isn’t enough.
Every product we create is born from a beautiful synergy — where contemporary design meets centuries-old artisan craft.

🖌 I design each artwork by hand: motifs inspired by gulmohar flowers, dancing parrots, Mughal jaalis, or folk tales whispered through generations.

Our artisan partners — masters of papermaking and block printing — then transform these designs into reality, crafting with patience, intuition, and skill.

The result?
Not mass-produced objects, but living pieces of art and soul — planners, calendars, and coloring books that feel deeply Indian, deeply human.

🪷 Why gulmohar, why parrots? The inspiration behind the prints

In my childhood, gulmohar trees meant summer holidays: scarlet canopies against a sky so bright it hurt your eyes.
Parrots meant laughter, chatter, and mischievous color.

Through Roohanirang’s prints, I hoped to bottle that feeling:
A reminder to slow down. To notice beauty hidden in everyday corners. To bring slow living into modern life, not as an escape, but as an embrace.

🌸 Beyond design: a commitment to mindful living

When you hold a Roohanirang planner or calendar, you’re not just holding paper:

  • You’re holding handmade, eco-friendly craft, born from recycled cotton rags

  • You’re holding a story that began in my sketchbook and ended in your hands

  • You’re inviting slow mornings, mindful evenings, and moments of calm within chaos

It’s why our brand isn’t just about products — it’s about living gently, artfully, and intentionally.

🧡 A letter from artist to user

Designing isn’t about decoration.
It’s about asking: “How can this make your day softer? How can art help you plan, declutter, and remember what matters?”

Every page, every motif, carries that question — and an answer drawn in color.
